Yeah, even bone horrors can own drok losers. Level 15 (what I had, with ascalon armor) vs. level 10 is pure ownage.

If that's the case, it's too bad. Maybe all those newbies that are now playing some other game would still be playing this one if it hadn't been for all the exploiters.

You realize that that's the BLOODY POINT?! The fact that Droknar's Forge armour is STANDARD is what we have a problem with!

If you went into Ascalon at lvl 1 you might be able to get Eviserate through faction.

Yeah, but you wouldn't be able to use it in ascalon. PvP characters can't go to ascalon arena.

I don't understand why you would want to Pwn people in a level 10 arena. Truthfully, wow. GG, you suck.

sidenote: I played a E/N9 with blinding flash and gale...it completely owns warriors, with drok's and elites.

Off topic and yet not; why are people making such a fuss about Ascalon
and Yak's arena? They suck total ass. Try PvPing somewhere that actually
nets you a decent amount of faction.

Because new people who try PVP for the first time don't care about faction, they care about fun and trying out their char. Reverse the question - if you want faction or show how good you are, why do you enter that arena, instead of TA or Tombs?
How dense can people be, how hard is it to understand?

Ok my first pvp experiance (ever, not just guild wars). This was about 2ish months ago.

Ok id got my player to level 7. So i decide hmmm whats this ascalon arena then.

Enter

(ill call my teammates blues)

blue = OMG level 7 youll get owned noob

Me = (silence, im thinking okaaay whats this about then, and whys he being a to**er).

blue = ok ill call

me = ok

bish bash bosh we were owned.

rinse and repeat a few times, and i got bored.

Now of couse i cant remember if they had droks armour. But the point was for many people this is their first try at PVP, simply getting owned like that is not fun. Now this didnt put me off PVP, but did put me off tempararly as it made PVP seem like nothing but a bore.

Now when people like me (and i would consider myself typical pve) enter the ascalon arenas, i am expecting to have fun.

scenarios

1. ownage
2. we own them
3. evenly matched team, we to and fro trying to "break" into their group.

Which one of those do you think the typical first timer is going to enjoy more. What you want is a good mix, but if you just come up against 1 again and again, the typical PVE'r will just go.

Droks armour seroisly cripples the chances of a new player getting a good mix of the above, and makes 1 occouring more likely.

my .02 cents

Haha, and with your build, you'd still own because you weren't using either to get your lvl 18 horrors.

Not complaining really. I went in with standard skills on my monk and drok armor when I was level 9. Got killed plenty of times, and won plenty of times. I cycled through a number of teams and there was maybe one or two people who didn't have drok armor. And as far as how long I was there, well, I left around 5% into level 11 so I saw quite a few people.

(this isn't directed at you, but just at the thread in general) Now it's one thing to go in with your Drok and elites and shit, but it's a whole other thing to dance on the corpses of the losing team and spam shit like "fcking n00bs come back when you don't suck" or "you suck, get better". That's out of line and just shows your immaturity.

If getting owned in these arenas is enough to make you quit the game or not even bother with PvP anymore, then I really couldn't care less. You're obviously not a competitive player.

I got owned plently of times with my first character (a mesmer of all classes), and did the low-level arenas a lot. Wasn't much fun, yeah, but I learned that w/mo's (yes....) were capable of dishing out quite alot of damage. So I made one, and my kill/death ratio in the low level arenas got a lot better. By the time he was in CA, I realized that everybody has counters against warriors, so I made something different again.

I never gave up though, even though I faced people with elites and such. I just dissed them and entered again, because yes, I think I'm competitive, and I'm not gonna let some loser get in my way. If you don't have the same motivation to improve yourself (for example, blinding flash those poison arrow rangers or drokkie warriors and they're useless), then I'd rather you stay away from PvP altogether.

Its also people like you that make me find PVP boring sometimes.

if you hadnt noticed its a GAME, self improvement my bumhole.

Also if you hadnt noticed, a LARGE portion of people are not competitive. I see no need to be, maybe in real life. But then maybe thats because i have one. (please dont go on to say you are a mature adult with kids, miltary service ect, as i dont care).

SHOCK HORROR, some people just play for fun..........

This is a major problem in getting people into the PvP game. ANet was likely trying to encourage PvP, when all these arenas do is discourage it - thank goodness the re-introduction of experience for kills happened or you'd have the same guys there all the time.

It's bad enough that the skills available at this point in the game aren't even in terms of PvP ability, but adding twinkers to the mix just makes it that much less palatable. If ANet wants new players to PvP they have to work at encouraging it; they need:

1) no twinkers in arenas: Limit weapon damage, skills usable and armour levels.
2) quests that take you into PvP, like the academy mission, and the Thirsty River-style missions.
3) Rewards for PvP at lower levels - PvE rewards for it - after all, we're trying to get PvE player to do arenas, right? Provide nice drops for the lower level players, and gold. Gold is hard to come by at low level, so getting a bit of gold for a win would really help, as would getting a minor rune occasionally and so on. Dyes are also sought after, as are crafting supplies. If steel and furs and such could be won you'd have people doing it to gget their gear, and I'd rather have them in there PvPing for it than farming charr in Fort Ranik - at least if they PvP they may end up liking it!
4) Special PvE rewards from PvP play, like the rank emote and so on. PvE players typically like grinding away working toward something "special"; give them a chance to through PvP - make it a special weapon for their class, with a neat look (no more powerful though than what they could use, or make it like the pre-orders, scaling in power); give them a new armour skin they get access to for winning and so on. PvE rewards would really bring people in - "Cool shield, where'd you get it?" "Oh, it dropped for me after 10 flawless in the arena! It's just 12 AL, but it's customised to me and looks really neat."

Ascalon Arena should allow at most those armors you can buy from the Ascalon City. Skills, weapons, shields or other off-hand items should be limited the ones you can find from the all areas before the portal which leads to Traveler's Vale.

I can't think anything which would make that impossible to do. ArenaNet promised to fix this but nothing has happened.

in my opinion it is totally unfair how experienced players just roam into Ascalon Arena, the almost very first PvP experience to most players, and they abuse the fact that they can kill anyone with elite skills and best armor/weapon/shield etc...AND THEY THINK THEY R GOOD!!! They insult new players with the word "noob", which they use incorrectly, when they kill them. Well, the devs would need to revise Ascalon Arena, limit the max lvl of armors for each class, rule out the use of elite skills, and the damage on each weapon. Having such unfair advantages allows players to gain much more faction than they would regularly do, and i think this needs to be stopped.

Also, how do u think those poor beginners feel when u "own" them with your godly skills and items...which makes u proud...LOL...shameful (--> goes to all those "abusers" out there)

What burns me is that all these jerks "pwning n00bs" in Ascalon Arena then turn around and post complaints on forums just like this about how GW is dying, where did everybody go? etc.

When you're done with the relatively short world of PvE in GW, PvP is all that is left. If nothing is done to encourage PvE players to play and improve at PvP, then it's a battle of attrition as PvP continually fades until the next chapter and the PvE people come back. If you are a PvP player, IT IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST to encourage newbs to try PvP, and to get better. Otherwise PvP will wither and the "competitive" players will sit around for hours waiting for matches (and bitching about it) while the PvE players (who could have become PvP but were quickly soured on it by exploiters) move on to another game. Oh, wait, that's already happening.

I consider myself a model case. GW was my first MMORPG, and my first foray into online PvP gaming. I bought the game on the day of its release, and so twinking wasn't an issue when I was in Ascalon and Yaks - I was part of the first wave of people still figuring out the game. I tried random arena on a lark, and lo and behold it was a lot of fun - I lost a lot, but gradually got the hang of it and was hooked.

I've since brought up two other characters, and both times I dipped my toes in the Ascalon and Yaks arena for old times' sakes, only to quickly leave in disgust - not only are the arenas infested with twinks, but the arrogance and insulting attitude that covers their selfish cowardice made it all far worse. Yeah buddy, you cheated, good for you. Now why don't you go "pwn" some kid at tee-ball.

Why Anet doesn't fix this is beyond me. It's shooting their own game in the foot.

I think the ideal fix to this has been suggested a number of times, and it seems to me that it is so easy for them to implement. Like 10 lines of code easy. Just make a flag that when a player enter's Yak's Bend (for example) then that flag is changed and that player loses access to Ascalon arena. Likewise, when the player gets to either forge or Lion's (the next arena towns), then a flag is set so they lose access to Yak's arena. Ridiculously easy to implement, and would make these arenas so much better.
